Want to be part of Ain’t Misbehavin’ × CurioCity at AfrikaBurn 2027?

We’re building a co-created camp of up to 60 people around dance, live music, performance, play and creative mischief — and we’re looking for people who want to help make it happen.

You don't need to be an experienced Burner, swing dancer or builder. What matters most is curiosity, respect, participation and a willingness to contribute.

apply to join

This isn't a plug-and-play camping package. We're building the camp together, and everyone contributes according to their capacity and interests.

There are lots of ways to get involved before, during and after the Burn:

Build & infrastructure

Dance floor, stage, shade, power, water, lighting, construction and more.

Camp life

Cooking, washing up, hosting, logistics, keeping things running and looking after each other.

Creative contribution

Music, dance, performance, art, costume, interactive experiences, Cabaret and Binnekring adventures.

Behind the scenes

Fundraising, procurement, admin, communications, project management and coordination.

MOOP & Strike

Looking after our site and making sure we leave it better than we found it.

You don't need to do everything. We'll match people to teams according to their interests, skills and capacity.

Honestly? A slightly ridiculous mix of people.

We're looking for:

Dancers & musicians

Swing dancers, solo jazz dancers, live musicians, DJs, singers and music nerds.

Performers & creators

Cabaret artists, circus performers, actors, costume people, artists and people with strange ideas.

Builders & makers

Carpenters, welders, electricians, sound and lighting people, plumbers, tinkerers and people who simply like making things work.

Camp humans

Cooks, organisers, logistics people, hosts, fundraisers, photographers, designers, communicators, first-aiders and people who are inexplicably good at getting shit done.

And people who don't fit neatly into any of those categories.

If you've got a skill, an idea, a resource, a weird obsession or a willingness to help, we'd like to hear about it.

There's no single mould for a camp member.

Some people will be deeply involved in planning and building. Others have limited time before the Burn but can show up fully on site. Some bring specialist skills, equipment or artistic contributions.

We'll ask you about your capacity when you apply and work out where you can contribute most usefully.

Before the Burn

Online planning, admin, fundraising, procurement, design and build weekends.

During the Burn

Camp duties, programming, hosting, cooking, maintenance and generally helping make the thing work.

After the Burn

Strike and the final MOOP sweep are part of being a camp member.

Your camp contribution pays for the shared infrastructure, food, music, dance, art and camp experience we create together. It's separate from your AfrikaBurn ticket.

Need some flexibility?

We don't want money to be the reason someone can't participate.
There are Supported Contribution, Core Contributor and artist-support pathways for people whose circumstances or contribution make a different arrangement appropriate. These are handled individually.

Early build is optional, but arriving by camp opening and participating in Strike are mandatory. The current guide also provides for reasonable accommodation where someone has circumstances that prevent them from doing particular activities.

Before you apply

Please read our Camp Contribution Guide before completing the application. It explains what your contribution covers, what's expected of camp members, the different contribution pathways and the practical details of joining.

This is a participatory camp.

Everyone contributes. Nobody is being paid for their camp contribution.

Everyone needs to arrive by camp opening.

Camp orientation is Monday 26 April 2027 at 15:00.

Strike is part of the deal.

Everyone is expected to participate in Strike and the final MOOP sweep.

You don't have to be a Burner.

The camp explicitly prioritises curiosity, respect, participation and willingness to contribute over previous AfrikaBurn experience.

Places are limited.

The combined camps are currently capped at 60 people, and applying doesn't guarantee a place. Selection will consider capacity, skills, interests, contribution and community fit. Camp Application AMAB x CurioCi…
