AFRIKABURN 2027
Ain’t Misbehavin’ is joining forces with CurioCity to create a shared village of music, movement, performance and mischief in Tankwa Town.
We built our first floor in 2022, designed as single-use prototype, and donated the materials to the AfrikaBurn community afterwards.
We built a new floor in 2023, designed for long-term use with a solid steel frame, modular frames and adjustable feet for uneven ground. We used it for three years, then it was stolen in a heist. Literally the whole thing.
We took a break in 2026.
Now, we're coming back in 2027, with the support of CurioCity and the wider burn community, with a new floor – more lightweight, still modular, still built for uneven terrain. Let's go!
why we do this

Who we are
We’re a jazz and swing theme camp at AfrikaBurn that was dreamt and built by a rather unlikely team.
A veteran burner with a love of vintage, a lindy hopper with a desire to share the joy of dance, an engineer who never knew he always wanted to build a dance floor in the desert.
And a bunch of other multi-talented folks who’ve thrown countless hours into creating something from virtually nothing.
AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’ × CURIOCITY
Two camps. One shared playground.
In 2027, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and CurioCity are joining forces to create something bigger than either camp could build alone.
We bring the swing, jazz, live music, dancing and dusty ballroom energy. CurioCity brings immersive experiences, interactive art and a particular appetite for building strange things.
Together, we’re creating a shared village — with a dance floor, music, creative programming, communal spaces and plenty of room for mischief.

What we gift to the Binnekring
THE DUSTY BALLROOM
A proper dance floor in the middle of the Tankwa.
Built to survive the desert. Designed to bring people together.

Dance classes, every day
Real beginner classes that don’t require a partner or any experience.

Social dancing
Come dance with us, whatever you already know — or don't.

Performances
Dance, cabaret, juggling, fire spinning, miming, and more.

And then, at night
The floor turns into a dance party, with jazz and swing you just can’t stand still to.
Camp size & culture
Our crew of wild and dusty dancers and jazz lovers puts a whole lotta love into this camp. We cap our limit at about 30 campers to keep the experience more intimate and personable.
We’re probably a good fit for you if…
- You think there should be a swing band to complement all the sound systems
- You want to dance, or you want to learn
- You love putting on a show — and teaching nervous first-timers
- You're happy to spend a day building before the fun starts
One thing to be upfront about:
We build the floor, cook the meals, and set up the camp together. Then we unscrew everything and take it all down at the end. If that’s the kind of thing you like to sink your teeth into, you'll fit right in.

Communal infrastructure
Shared resources that we build and prepare together — either ahead of time or on site.
- Shaded sleeping area
- Shower
- Power supply
- Shaded chill zone
- One meal per day plus snacks
- 7 litres of water per person per day (for drinking and hygiene)
What you’ll need to bring
Things you’ll need to bring yourself for your comfort and survival on site.
- Camping gear (tent, mattress, pillow, camp light, etc.)
- Eating utensils
- Snacks & drinks
- Personal hygiene items
- Warm and cold outfits
- Basic first aid kit
- And many other necessary personal items
camp fees
What does it take to make this happen?
A lot.
We’re building a camp from scratch: infrastructure, power, water, kitchen, shade, lighting, a dance floor, transport, creative programming and everything else required to make a temporary village work in the desert.
